Brain Storming Meeting October 29, 2007
ACM organized one brain storming meeting in New Delhi. This meeting was focused on the condition of stone mine workers and deployment of child labor in the mine sector. Mr. Benjamin Putter, from Xertifix, Germany, briefed the participants about the vision, mission, and approach of Xertifix. He located the conditions of Indian stone workers and their families in global context and opined that some concrete action needs to be taken for the welfare of the stone mine workers, so that they can take care of their families and educate their children. Mr. Benjamin stressed that coordinated efforts are required from the side of stone mine owners.
Mr. Rajpurohit, a stone-mine owner from Rajashthan expressed his commitment to convince 100 stone mine owners in the Rajasthan state to undertake welfare measures for the workers. Adding to his effort, Mr. Lokesh Kaushik stated that he will discuss the education issue of the stone-mine workers’ children with the Chairperson, Central Child Labour Advisory Board and will effort for the opening of the special schools near stone-mines for the children whose families are working in mines. In this same meeting, Mr. Rajnath, a social worker, tabled a project proposal, “Mobilization of Local Mining: A View for Social Economic Development of Rajasthan Mine Workers”.
This brain storming meetings was concluded with one important decisions of establishing one Model Stone Mine in Rajasthan. This model mine will demonstrate that how the concept of inclusive growth & development of workers and business can be achieved side by side. |

Meeting with the Chairperson, Central Child Labour Advisory Board: October 30, 2007
A delegation of ACM met Mr. Ajit Singh Kataria, Chairperson, Central Child Labour Advisory Board, and briefed him about the conditions of children involved in labour in different occupations in the country. Delegations members explained the plight and exploitative conditions of the child laborers and requested Mr. Kataria that all the rules passed by the government must be implemented by the official with right vision and attitude and various welfare schemes must be accessible for the entire needy persons. Delegation sought that the rights of stone miner workers should be protected and concreted steps should be taken for poverty alleviation among workers. Conducive environment should be drawn so that these less privileged mine workers can join mainstream society. Delegation members apprised the Chairperson about the absent comprehensive rehabilitation program for the children emancipated from child labor and urged him that special centers should be opened in the child labor prone areas along with increasing the coverage of NCLP (National Child Labor Project) schools.
Mr. Ajit Singh Kataria assured the delegation members for all possible support from the Board and also explained the various child labor welfare steps taken by the Board right from the increased monetary support from the government to the released child laborers to a comprehensive rehabilitation. |
